History. The Rivers of America Series started in with the publication of Kennebec: Cradle of Americans by Robert P. Tristram Coffin, and ended in with the publication of The American: River of El Dorado by Margaret Sanborn.. Constance Lindsay Skinner initially conceived the series. She was also the first series editor. Skinner wrote an essay that was included in early volumes of the Missing: Pee Dee Guards. The 10th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry was organized in August for twelve months, but some of the companies appear to have been disbanded and others were added at various times until the regiment was finally composed of twelve companies. It was reorganized for the war in May and temporarily consolidated with the 19th Regiment South Carolina Infantry (September to April ).
